Discover some of the items made in the homes of Nova Scotian pioneers on display in our crafts area, and try your hand at some of the traditional skills used in the making of these goods. Quilting, rug hooking and weaving were all necessary skills in the homes of the pioneers before factory-made goods became widely available. While many of the items were originally designed to provide warmth for the family, they were also sold to supplement meager incomes and improve a family's standard of living. But, with all this hard work came some play! The piano on display hints at the social nature of crafting, and the museum’s volunteer quilters are in for a chat on a weekly basis.
